Safety during building work

If your premises are subjected to building work, you are required to take account of the building regulations. This also includes when the building is extended, materially altered or if it is subjected to any relevant change. The building regulations also include the way in which the access, fire safety, structural stability, energy efficiency and ventilation are designed.

You should always provide early warnings of fire and other means for escaping in case of emergency. Also, people should be informed about the fire safety measures which can eventually help them to escape properly.  

If you are an employer, it is your responsibility to educate workers about the necessary fire safety measures that need to be taken. Information like smoke detection, sprinklers, fire doors, safety workwear and safety clothing should also be provided to them.   

To avoid accidents at construction sites, builders should consider the following factors:

•    Identify the possible dangers and carry out risk assessments.
•    A construction site must have proper safety precautions to deal with all types of risks.
•    Must ensure that employees come dressed in proper work wear.

Usually, many accidents occur at construction places out; some are minor but a few are fatal. Having proper safety at a construction site provides peace of mind to employees and employers. By having proper safety measures and wearing safety clothing, the numbers of accidents at the workplace can be greatly reduced.
