Proper safety gear - a must for preventing accidents at construction sites
15 April 2011 by

A construction site job has been found to be the second most life threatening job in the UK. The statistics are staggering as 2007-08 witnessed 72 deaths. A report reveals that in the last 25 years over 2,800 people have died due to accidents at construction sites.
The saddest part is that all these deaths could have been avoided if the authorities and workers behaved more responsibly. Most of the accidents occurring at construction sites can be avoided if proper safety gear is used and safety measures are taken.
Wearing proper safety gear can save the lives of people working on construction sites. Thus the workers of construction sites must take this very seriously and equip themselves with proper safety gear. Safety gear ensures that their own safety and also helps them to move about in their workplace more freely allowing them to work more efficiently.
Workers should take the initiative to get the right safety gear as it is they who lose the most in the event of an accident. Although they might get compensation after fighting a legal battle for a few years, no sum of money can actually compensate for the suffering that they have to go through.
The construction companies are equally responsible for their workers’ safety. A little investment on safety gear and safety measures can save them loads of money and keep the reputation of the company intact. Only a joint initiative of the authorities and workers can reduce the accident rates at construction sites.
