No safety clothing for workers, could mean trouble for companies

Safety clothing is a must and not wearing the correct protective attire on dangerous sites can cause trouble for everyone, as found out by a Fife company recently. The company was fined £28,000 pounds, after it was found to have exposed its construction workers to asbestos. Director of Dean Entertainment, Edward Dean Melville, was also fined an additional £7,000 pounds, when he pleaded guilty to breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

More than 15 construction workers were exposed to the cancerous fibres and their health concerns were ignored by the company until they took the matter to the Health and Safety Executive. The principal inspector of the HSE, Jim Skilling, said the incident was of significant importance since it involved a large number of workers.
