Safety working tips for hot weather

• Heat cramps: This is caused owing to heavy exertion in summer time. This starts with muscular pain.
• Heat exhaustion: Due to excessive sweating the body fluids drain out causing headache, nausea, vomiting and resulting in exhaustion.
• Heat Stroke: When the body cannot cool faster than acquiring heat, it results in heat stroke and is consequently life threatening.
• Heat rashes: When the perspiration is trapped, it results in rashes. The symptoms are itching, prickly or stringing sensation of the skin.
• Sunburn: Due to over exposure to sun light the skin becomes red in colour.
  

 There are certain precautions one can take to avoid heat related problems:

1. Frequent short breaks instead of sparse long ones are recommended.
2. Drink plenty of water and keep a stock of cool water handy.
3. Try to perform jobs under shade and try to avoid working directly under the sun.
4. Wear cotton and loose clothing so that enough space is available for sweat evaporation.
   

The heat related problems should be taken seriously. Workers should be educated regarding heat related complications so that they are aware of the impending dangers. The safety workwear should be comfortable to wear and not too tight. Fitting is very important or the wearer will feel suffocated and uncomfortable.
