The Health and Safety Minister has cautioned employers as well as senior managers overseeing the day-to-day work that they need to control or minimise the risks associated with working at great heights. This is more applicable to workplaces such as building or construction sites.
The cautionary note follows the recent prosecution of a manager working with a construction firm after an unfortunate incident led to one of the employees at a worksite in Mansfield suffering major injuries.
After he was found guilty, Simon John Ludgate of Oakfield Avenue based in Warsop, Mansfield (Nottinghamshire) was slapped with a fine of £1,500 at Nottingham Crown Court. The manager incidentally pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2 (1) and 3 (1) of the 1974 Act of Health and Safety at Work.
He also admitted contravening Regulation 3 (1) (b) (ii) of the 1995 Regulations related to ‘Reporting Injuries, Diseases & Dangerous Occurrences for an incident that took place at the construction site at Sheepwalk Lane, Ravenshead in Mansfield. The manager was found guilty of failing to control the inherent risks from occupational hazards, including falls from height, which took place at another site in Wollaton.
