Safety Clothing: A rationale for safety in building work >>
Selecting the Right Safety Footwear
11 August 2010 by

Every job is different and requires specific kind of skills and safety equipment. Footwear is one integral thing in a safety equipment kit which is required in building jobs to properly protect workers. To make sure that an employee puts his best foot forward for the job, literally, you need to supply the right kind of footwear.
Here are a few of the key factors to select the right footwear:
The first thing one has to consider is the hazards involved in their line of work. Employee feedback is important to understand their exact safety needs, which will help get the right footwear.
In a work environment, feet need to be protected from rolling and falling objects, piercing and even open wires. In order to meet all these requirements, shoes need to be impact-resistant and compression-resistant, as well as puncture-resistant. They need to have slip-resistant soles. Look for chemical-resistant footwear for more hazardous jobs.
Feet should also be protected from extreme cold or heat. Special insulators protect the feet from the cold and/or heat. All rubber sole shoes are heavy; choose footwear that combines rubber with lighter materials like polyurethane. This will reduce the weight and allow the worker better movement.
