Workplace accidents can be prevented by proper usage of safety gear
06 August 2010 by

Here is a practical example that shows you how negligence can result in major injuries.
Bob worked in a printing press. He was in a hurry and shifted the rollers of the printing press, which were kept in the slow mode, to its normal speed. In his hurry, his fingers accidentally touched the rollers and his gloveless hand was sucked into the rollers.
Although his co-workers came to his rescue, his hand was badly bruised and he required extensive plastic surgery. This could have been avoided with the use of safety gloves that were not provided by the employer.
The conclusion that we can draw here is that most accidents are caused by lack of optimum protection in the form of safety gear, or careless, improper use of safety wear.
If you are working in places that have flying particles, goggles with side shields must be worn. While welding (using lasers or fibre optics), a tradesman should wear special purpose glasses, helmet or face mask.
